The Show

I threw up a song on myspace. Keep in mind it's not mixed down yet so it's pretty rough. It's actually a song we weren't even going to record but got it down anyways. Check it.

The obligatory myspace page

We need one to book shows at lame venues that book shows via myspace. So here it is. We only accept porn stars and Muslims as friends.

The Rape of Nanking

Check this horrifying event out. Have you ever heard about the Rape of Nanking? Holy hell man this is one of the biggest atrocities ever committed by mankind. I am reading this book about it right now. It's amazing to me that I've never heard about this event until just recently. It is pretty much omitted from all US and European history books. It’s sad really, because as far as I can tell it was ultimately left out  because of money and commerce. It is something you should definitely read about it if you can.

Basically in 1937 during WWII Japan began a push towards Nanking(also known as Nanjing) after taking Shanghai. They surrounded the city and then for 6 weeks systematically executed around 300,000 Chinese civilians. It is estimated that only around 90,000 of these deaths were actual combatants. Not that that matters because most of the Chinese army surrendered only to be executed anyways. The Japanese figured they couldn’t feed 300,000 POW’s so they just started slaughtering them.

Even worse they estimate that over 40,000 women were raped, with Fathers forced to rape daughters and sons forced to rape mothers while family members were forced to watch. Babies were also raped and bayoneted, then thrown into boiling water, sometimes still alive. I'm not making this up, this really happened. It's almost beyond the scope of what we can imagine cruelty can be as human beings. Japan does not acknowledge that this took place, and swear that it is all propaganda from the Chinese government trying to make them look bad. To this day the Japanese government has never admitted any wrong doing by their military. And they committed similar acts in the Philippines, Korea, and anyplace else they invaded in the 20th century. It's strange because when I think of the Japanese I think of a calm and respectful people, not capable of something like this. But it happened, there is photographic and eye witness evidence of it. They are not allowed to have a military any longer, we supply our troops for their defense. It is your duty as a human being to at least briefly familiarize yourself with this event. We cannot let shit like this happen.

Death Rattles and Smoke Screens

Howdy folks,

Well let’s see.....there is about 12 inches of snow outside and I am one of three people who actually came to work today. We got slammed with some heavy weather. That’s a good band name, Heavy Weather.

Things are moving along nicely with the band. Wrote a few new songs recently, one just last night and I played some guitar just fucking around later. I need to start bringing my rig to fuck around when we write songs. It's been a good process and I'm becoming very comfortable as a vocalist. We go into the studio March 6th to record our first (and possibly last) demo. You see our little homo drummer is moving to San Francisco in July with his GF. And by GF I mean boyfriend. So we will need a new drummer come the summertime.....anyone? Brendan? How's NY sound buddy? We'll find someone, it's NY. But it still sucks the ballzzzack. Ok I guess I'll go do some watch related work now.

Transition

Sure this is a blog about music mostly, but sometimes music and literature become one. As is the case here. This book is phenomenal. Seriously the best book I've read in years. So good in fact that the first song I've written in over 2 years is all about it. Transition by Ian M. Banks. Do yourself a favor and go pick it up and start reading it. Totally sweet book. And now it is also a fucking stoner rock song. I wrote a song about another book back in Denver. That was for Chasm City, and that is the best sci-fi book ever imo.

I am the Transitionary
I can show you how
We are the old and the weary
We won't fail you now

Imagine wars

Working on possible fonts and logos. I like this one on top. Some more options...

snowballz

Holy shite it's snowing retarded style. Gigantic flakes man, biggest that I've seen possibly. They say 20 inches, those motherfucks. I hope we get enough to build an igloo on the roof and a tunnel system. I love this weather. Also, no show on the 27th now because our little sissy drummer will be out of town.

Between Wars

Hey there to the two or three people who check this out. Sorry for the delay in postings. I feel like I'm getting something awful sick. And last weekend I mainly wanted to gouge out my eyeballs.
Anyways were going with the name Between Wars. I liked it then didn't but its the only thing these dudes have agreed on so fuck it, Between Wars it is.When I googled between wars this was the first image. The between wars steam train. Fuck yea.

Gone fishing.....with Dean fucking Ween!

So I recently discovered that Dean Ween of the band Ween does guided fishing tours in NJ cause he's a fishing nut. Ween has been around for hecka long and made one of the greatest album covers of all time. There's no "fish with a rockstar" angle either. It's just Mickey's Fishing (aka Dean). This is great awesome news. I started fishing again a lot last year cause my buddy Stephen is an avid fisherman. I love it man, it's very relaxing for me. Anyways I'm totally going fishing with fucking Dean Ween this year.

Sleep dosage for the week

Holy Mountain.....also the name of the album they'll be playing in it's entirety this September. Yes.

First show, still no name.

So we'll be playing our first show Feb 27th or something like that, it's a saturday night. I'm fucking stoked. Only problem is we still haven't settled on a name. Fuck. I liked the name 'Bake' tonight, but it faded. Originally it was Birds of war. We've considered shit tons of names but can't all agree on one yet. The names. DC thought of that one...me like.

Tuesday, January 19, 2010

Fuck to the yea.

Nothing much to say here really, it's simple. SLEEP (reunited) PERFORMING HOLY MOUNTAIN. Perhaps there is a god, I might have to reconsider.

Art that is good

This dude Jeremy Geddes is amazing. Check out more of his stuff here. I just stumbled across his work this morning, and it's fully badass. It's a lot of this weird sad post-space exploration art or something. Not that I know shit about art. I just think the picture of the red cosmonaut is sweet. And there's just some really really beautifully dark stuff. Like these two here, appropriately titled Doomed #3 and Doomed #4. Doomed4 (the one with the trees) would make a dope album cover.

Sweden melts faces

This is Dozer. They are a stoner metal band from Sweden. This song, Headed for the sun, is pretty fucking sweet. Shit recording, the guy pretty much cant sing for shit, but it shreds. These dudes were a big influence on my last band (which was back in 03, a long ass time ago) in Denver. Off to band practice to hone my skills, or lack thereof. Later on.

One of the best stoner songs ever.

SLEEP. These guy's ruled. Matt pike, now with High on Fire, is a badass. Complete badass. Check it out, because if you like Dave Matthews Band then you'll love this. Just like his music, it will melt your face. I'll try to post face melting shit weekly, along with whatever else I happen to be into at the moment. Also, in case you didn't read this, Dave (Flynn not Matthews) eloquently pointed out recently that we are completely fucked. Read that, Dave's smart.

And let's go ahead and dig up a Kyuss song, one of my favorite bands ever. I wish I could sound like John Garcia. Wish is the key word there, hence the title of this blog.

Bloggin for apples

I made a blog on the recommendation of my friend Dave and his love for blogging. Fuck it why not, I'll spew some thoughts into cyberspace (actual photo of cyberspace). So welcome to my blog. I just started singing (or trying to sing) for a band in Brooklyn. Yea I know, I'm not sure what the hell I'm getting into. I can't sing but I've seen so many local bands with terrible singers that I decided I couldn't possibly be any fucking worse than they are. I replied to an ad on craigslist, went to practice, and now I'm a singer. Boom. Just like that. You can do it too, trust Larry. It's pretty rad just walking around and thinking to yourself "I'm in a band, so whatever, fuck off". It's been many years since I played in a band. My only regret is that I didn't get back into something sooner. I forgot how great it feels to make music. It's a great outlet to release stress and just let loose, nawww i meen? And to get babes. Babes with tattoos and bad habits. Bye for now. Fuck you Jay Leno.
