The Rape of Nanking

Check this horrifying event out. Have you ever heard about the Rape of Nanking? Holy hell man this is one of the biggest atrocities ever committed by mankind. I am reading this book about it right now. It's amazing to me that I've never heard about this event until just recently. It is pretty much omitted from all US and European history books. It’s sad really, because as far as I can tell it was ultimately left out  because of money and commerce. It is something you should definitely read about it if you can.

Basically in 1937 during WWII Japan began a push towards Nanking(also known as Nanjing) after taking Shanghai. They surrounded the city and then for 6 weeks systematically executed around 300,000 Chinese civilians. It is estimated that only around 90,000 of these deaths were actual combatants. Not that that matters because most of the Chinese army surrendered only to be executed anyways. The Japanese figured they couldn’t feed 300,000 POW’s so they just started slaughtering them.

Even worse they estimate that over 40,000 women were raped, with Fathers forced to rape daughters and sons forced to rape mothers while family members were forced to watch. Babies were also raped and bayoneted, then thrown into boiling water, sometimes still alive. I'm not making this up, this really happened. It's almost beyond the scope of what we can imagine cruelty can be as human beings. Japan does not acknowledge that this took place, and swear that it is all propaganda from the Chinese government trying to make them look bad. To this day the Japanese government has never admitted any wrong doing by their military. And they committed similar acts in the Philippines, Korea, and anyplace else they invaded in the 20th century. It's strange because when I think of the Japanese I think of a calm and respectful people, not capable of something like this. But it happened, there is photographic and eye witness evidence of it. They are not allowed to have a military any longer, we supply our troops for their defense. It is your duty as a human being to at least briefly familiarize yourself with this event. We cannot let shit like this happen.
